Lateral extent of stimulation versus electrode-retina distance. Relationship between the computed lateral extent of stimulation and the electrode-retina distance demonstrates that an increase in electrode-retina distances decreases the resolution of the retinal implant. The lateral extent is proportional to the sum of half of electrode-retina distance and radius of the electrode. For a point source (or very small electrodes), the graph would cross the origin of the graph.
